NATT+ Consultation Response

NATT + has responded to the Government consultation on changes to planning for Gypsy and Traveller communities.

On 29 August 2010, the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government announced the Government’s intention to withdraw the existing traveller planning circulars (Circular 01/2006: Planning for Gypsy and Traveller Caravan Sites and Circular 04/2007: Planning for Travelling Showpeople). NATT+ is responding on behalf of its members to strongly oppose the repeal of section 444(6) EA 1996.

Having sought the views of community members represented at the NATT+ annual Education Liaison Officer meeting in Wolverhampton on February 2nd by the Showman’s Guild, Circus Parents Association and Association of Circus proprietors, Society of Roundabout Proprietors, the Association of Independent Showmen and the Federation of Gypsy Liaison Groups, we feel able to defend this point of view with the confidence of the communities we serve....Read more »

At a meeting in November 2012 Claire Lockwood asked Dianne Barrington of the Department for Education the question: In light of the imminent increase in the school leaving age to 18, whether a child who is 17 years old can leave school and work in the family’s business part time or whether the child has to  remain in school full time?"
