ENTE

European Network for Traveller Education

ENTE logoENTE seeks to actively improve the educational opportunities of Occupational Travellers, including those from the Fairground and Circus Communities.

Various countries from the European Union have elected to join this group and one person from each country is chosen to be a representative and be part of the ‘steering group/initiative group’. In the UK the representative is Sylvie Parkes.

Amongst the initiatives that have been discussed are effective Distance Learning, Electronic Learning and specific schools to cater for circus children.

When children of Travellers from the UK, travel to Europe, it may be possible to arrange education for them at an educational establishment. Further information about this can be obtained from Sylvie Parkes.

Background

Organising the schooling and education of the Travelling community is often difficult. A long-lasting solution is not possible without collaboration and participation of all the EU countries. On 1st December 2005 ENTE was set up to work for a long lasting solution.

ENTE seeks to establish a permanent structure at European level for the coordination of collaboration between those involved in education for Travelling Communities.

ENTE is in the first place a forum of schools and educational institutions. This forum prepares and co-ordinates concrete projects and proposals of schools, foundations or teachers. ENTE exchanges experiences, materials and information, and offers a helpdesk.
