UK- Leading the way for Roma Education

Having recently returned from Hungary to discuss the situation of the Roma people across Europe, I have once again returned home feeling that here in the UK we have made so much progress with the Roma compared with other countries in a relatively short period of time. I would never advocate complacency and we  have by no means all the answers to many complex questions and issues that this topic raises, however, I do feel, that despite our relatively small number of Roma people (when compared with countries such as Hungary, Czech Republic, Bulgaria etc) we have examples of good practice that we need to share with other nations and indeed amongst ourselves. The fact that the Roma are attending school (primary and secondary) in much higher numbers than our English Gypsies is encouraging and shows that in the longterm things will improve. Please join the forum and let us know how things are going in your area? Do you have examples of good practice? If so what? Do you have any extended school activities that particularly appeals to the Roma? What concerns do you have?
