Assemblies

In these folders there are seven Powerpoint assemblies, one about each of the main Gypsy, Roma and Traveller groups. The format is generally the same for each assembly Power Point, with about 6 slides, with teacher notes on each slide.

Individual Assemblies

In each folder there is a file with the script to accompany the assembly powerpoint. Print the pdf file called ‘…script’ if this will help you.

The assemblies end mainly with some traditional music from the community, and this could also be a time for the period of reflection as the music is being played. To play the music, click on the ‘speaker’ symbol. To stop the music, click away from the ‘speaker’ symbol. The assemblies start with the same first page of notes. The three ethnic groups, Gypsies, Roma and Irish Travellers have several common themes, traditions and culture.

The assemblies were designed with the KS1 and KS2 audience, although some may be suitable for secondary students. Assemblies could be used as appropriate, class, year group school etc. Each assembly should last for about 20 minutes.
