Home learning (a more recent Strand A development)

As indicated above, from 2008 the ELAMP project also set out to explore the use of laptops and the internet for Traveller pupils who weren’t mobile. Over 300 school-age pupils, mainly from Gypsy Roma and other Traveller (GRT) communities, were supported by ELAMP during the final two years of the project. Early developments are described in the Strand A report for 2008-09 and these young learners were also included in the 2009-10 impact study. Here the results were again encouraging, with evidence of accelerated progress and attainment, and improved family commitment to schooling. However the impact on school attendance figures was more mixed.
