Schools are very aware of the ending of the SEF website as a much advertised "freeing" of schools from the burden of bureaucracy. The briefing produced in October 2010 on this, is still available on the Schools Bulletin at https://schoolsweb.buckscc.gov.uk/schools/infopoint/school_bulletin/new_... to accompany the Secretary of State’s announcement. In it School Improvement was clear that this did not mark the end of self-evaluation and that the shift of responsibility for its production and its design to schools marked a further level of evaluation in the quality of leadership and management. This was clear in the assertion from the DfE that schools would benefit from the flexibility to tailor self-evaluation to meet their particular needs and place responsibility for self review firmly with the school!

Ofsted have now issued guidance to inspectors on inspection practice which has been updated for the autumn term in line with removal of the online SEF.
