GRTHM Competition

Storytelling competitionThe award ceremony for the winners of this year's GRTHM competition has taken place at Leeds Civic Hall. The event also saw the release of the "Gypsy, Roma and Traveller Storybook" published by NATT+.

It was a hugely successful afternoon with a great turnout. Gypsy Journalist Jake Bowers compèred the proceedings. Karen Taylor, of Cheshire East TES, who many will know from her own children's storybooks, was in attendance and gave a reading. Cumbrian-based storyteller, Taffy Thomas MBE, who will become the nation’s first Laureate for Storytelling from January next year, also entertained the crowd with stories and his amazing storytelling coat.

Storytelling awards ceremonyYou can see images of the event on the Gypsy Roma Traveller History Month website. Follow the link/story from the home page www.grthm.co.uk. Photos are by GRTHM national co-ordinator Patricia Knight and BA Photography student Leanne Clark. You can download the images to print as well.

Gypsy Roma Traveller History Month 2009

Throughout the month of June many people from all walks of life came together for the second annual Gypsy Roma Traveller History Month (GRTHM) to celebrate the history, culture and rich heritage of all Travellers.

Building upon the successful template that was piloted last year NATT+ representatives discussed proposals with members of the Gypsy, Roma and Traveller communities and schools in their areas which were involved in last year's programme and sought to further develop the events of last year.

Read about just a few of the successful events that happened in June 2009.

Parent Held Education Record Book

Available as a download

Parent Held Education RecordWe are delighted to announce that the "RED" book is now available as a download. This is an updated version in the new NATT+ colours.

The Parent Held Education Record Book is designed for pupils who travel between schools on a regular basis. It helps facilitate continuity of education by giving a teacher a quick and easy guide for beginning to address the pupil's needs by saving time of unnecessary assessment. By filling in the records everyday it helps give, both teacher and pupil, a sense of achievement.

Printed copies of this book are available but many TESs have requested this invaluable resource to be available as a download for families and TESs to access.

Resource Catalogue

NATT ResourceCatalogueThe NATT+ Gypsy, Roma and Traveller Resource Catalogue has proven very successful and has already had a second batch printed to supply the demand it has generated! It features over 250 education resources from all over the country in one easy to use publication. Following the Gypsy, Roma and Traveller Resources Project report in November 2008 a Catalogue was seen as an essential tool for getting the appropriate materials into schools and other educational environments.

Also included are people such as artists and musicians who can take workshops, lessons and assemblies.

Unfortunately it came to our attention shortly after the second print of the resources catalogue that the phone number for WMCSTC had been supplied incorrectly, and was therefore misprinted throughout the catalogue. Correction slips have been inserted into the newer catalogues but please note that the phone number for WMCSTC should be 01902 714 646.

To obtain copies (or further copies) contact Claire Lockwood.
