GRTHM Competition 2012

Diamond Jubilee Postcard Celebrations

Gypsy Roma Traveller History Month (GRTHM) in June 2012 coincides with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. This year’s GRTHM competition neatly combines both events in our Postcard Celebrations competition.

Postcard Sets

NATT+ have produced a set of postcards that compare images from 1952* and today in 2012. Sets of these postcards are being distributed to schools and educational settings nominated by NATT+ members and Traveller Education Services.

We invite children and young people to complete the reverse of the postcards with stories, poems, collages, photographs, drawings or paintings inspired by the images on the cards and research into Gypsy, Roma and Traveller history and culture. The backs of each card have some suggested starting points.

The postcards can be displayed in the classroom and/or used for competition entries. They can also be downloaded from this page and printed out so that a whole class can participate.

Options

In addition to these cards illustrated above we've also made a set of cards with just an image from 1952. The entrants can complete these cards with the 2012 image. These extra cards are only available to download from this page.

You can also download blank postcards below which some entrants might find useful.

An entry can comprise just one completed card, or piece of work. But if a child wants to produce a set of multiple cards they are welcome to do so. They will only be eligible for one prize though.

Rules

The rules to the competition can be found here.

Entering the Competition

Use your imagination and knowledge to win prizes in Foundation Stage and Key Stages 1, 2, 3 and 4. You may enter one or more postcards but will only be eligible for one prize.

Award Ceremony

As in previous years there will be an award ceremony to celebrate the winners of the competition. This is due to take place on 21st September 2012 in the Sanctuary Buildings, home of the Department for Education. Further details will be announced when more information is available.

Use of the Entries

Each entry must have an entry form attached for identification purposes. The form can be found on the reverse of the main postcard/flyer. Photocopies of this form are perfectly acceptable. Entry forms that can be printed can also be downloaded below.

By entering this contest you grant us permission to display the work on our
website or other publications, including public exhibitions.
