Ofsted have published a report which illustrates and evaluates the features of best practice in safeguarding, based on inspection evidence and a small sample of outstanding schools visited by HMI.
The evaluation schedule provides outline guidance and grade descriptors for the judgements that inspectors will report on when inspecting schools under section 5 of the Education Act 2005 from January 2012.

This document has been written for trainee teachers who at some point will almost certainly have Gypsy, Roma and Traveller pupils in their school.
It is important that they know about these communities because research shows they are the groups most at risk of underachievement in the education system.
Dual registered Traveller children are covered by regulation 9 which stipulates that they cannot be deleted from the registers of their school of ordinary attendance (i.e. the base school).
