Registration

For 2010-11 you can register up to 5 learners within an LA for £1,000, or up to 10 learners for £1,400. (Learners do not have to be from a Traveller background provided it is clear that they would benefit from the programme).

The registration fee covers:

  • Training for tutors
  • An ongoing help-desk facility (telephone and email)
  • Tutor and learner access to a user- friendly Virtual Learning Environment which contains all the Wider Key Skills learning materials as well as additional materials to reinforce literacy.
  • Access to these materials off-line (to cover situations where there are internet connectivity problems)
  • Entry for up to three moderations per year for ASDAN Wider Key Skills qualifications
  • Entry for literacy qualifications (as appropriate to groups of learners).

Running the Programme

This provision is designed for tutors to support learners either individually or, wherever possible, in small groups. You will need to provide a tutor who can support the learners. Experience has shown that the programme works best if there is one half day a week face-to-face contact time with the learners, together with another half day each week to allow tutors to prepare, give feedback and assess.

Ideally the learners will need a laptop whilst they are participating in the programme. It is also an advantage if they can access the internet at home (via a wireless dongle). Alternatively tutorial sessions can be structured so that the learners have access to the internet at their weekly meeting, although it is possible to complete the whole programme off-line.

The programme can also be run in schools, tutored by appropriate staff, and may be especially useful for pupils who would benefit as part of Alternative Provision options.
