Dear NATT+ Members,

First and foremost a Happy New Year to you all! I hope you had a peaceful Christmas and feel refreshed for the Spring term!

I am writing to inform you about the decisions that were made at the NATT+ Executive emergency meeting on 11th December 2018, which was scheduled following the AGM in November.

After a great deal of discussion and thought, the executive committee came to the unanimous decision that NATT+ will close as a professional organisation on 31st October 2018. The main factors that led to this decision are:

  1. Insufficient funds to run a national network
  2. Shortage of members willing to put themselves forward to sit on the executive committee
  3. Existing executive members retiring /or capacity issues due to pressures of main jobs in school/LA

With the remaining funds we have, we will be running our final national conference entitled “Raising Standards and Ensuring Inclusion for Gypsy Roma and Traveller Children”  on Friday 15 June 2018, at  Aston Conference Centre, Birmingham. The conference will be run at a much-reduced rate of £50 for members and £100.00 for non-members.

Any money remaining in the NATT+ account on 31st October will be donated to a like-minded charity/organisation as stated in the NATT+ constitution.

We will be inviting speakers from all the main Gypsy Roma Traveller charities, as well as a number of schools with good practice to ensure that people know what is still out there in terms of support and networking opportunities.  We hope to see you all there!

NATT+ started over  30 years ago and has been a source of great support and strength for many teachers and professionals working with Gypsy Roma and Traveller children and communities. Times have changed but the needs of these children haven’t and we hope that all existing and former NATT+ members continue to speak out and network at least at a local and regional level to spread best practice, share ideas and develop a local voice.

Please keep an eye on the website for further details of the conference over the next few months!

Very best wishes to you all

Natalie Stables

Interim NATT+ President
